good looking set
great looking set, others have mention that the wood becomes 'marred' but that is what wood does, I don't see this as a problem, but add a nice 'patina.'

We used this set for our recreational tournament, everyone commented on how nice it was.
worth the price and handsome set with great carrying bag.
we also used the set from Restoration Hardware, while this set came with a 'nice' stand, disappointed in how flimsy the RH set was compared to this one.

I ordered this product thinking that "expert" meant that the quality would be high. Expert apparently refers to the narrow wickets, which I have no problem with. The wickets are the only quality item in this set. I wanted this set for the 36" handles but most of them are warped and appear to be turned that way. The mallet heads are light wieght forcing you to hit the ball harder which will cut the soft plastic covered ball. You can actually push your fingernails into the ball's soft plastic. I like the dark finish of the mallets but it seems like the manufacturer is trying to hide all the knot holes and defects in the wood. It was between this set and the $10 cheaper Halex set but the longer handles sold me. Don't make my mistake. Avoid this substandard set. I will get the Halex set. Stay tuned for that review. Ignore all the good reviews. Obviously this was the first set any of them ever owned. I have an old Eddie Baur four player set that I thought was cheap until receiving the Franklin set. The mallet heads of my old set are twice as heavy as these lightwieght toys.

Comments about Franklin Expert Croquet Set:
Played one game with a group of adult family members before returning it for a refund.
Several of the mallet shafts and one of the mallet heads had noticible cracks in them *before* we started playing.
During play one of the shafts broke right where it screws into the mallet head.
The biggst positive of the set were the wickets - solid and thick. They were not pointed at the ends, so they were difficult to drive into the ground. Had I kept the set I would have sharpened them.
